Geeky X-Mas Gift Guide

The Guide to all gifts (that I could find) Geeky and/or Nerdy

Behold, the Playstation 3, The ultimate Gift for any hardcore gamer geek out there (who isn't absolutely nuts about Halo). This is the best gift to give to any geek or nerd who loves their RPGs (Roll Playing Games). and this X-Mas it the time to gift this wonderful electronic toy (that you don't want any young siblings throwing or chewing on like they would do with their toys). with a $399 price-tag, this may only be gifted to either a child who had been really good for the year of 2007, or to one who is spoiled, or any combination of the two (preferably not rotten, those rotten kids do need to learn their life lessons after all). and to go along with that golden price comes the price of $60/game. so either the kid is good with saving up their allowance or has a job and is still living at home or is all grown up and knows how to juggle their paychecks to fit in a $60 luxury expense here and there (and if that's the case, a gift card to any given store that sells video games would do [this may prevent you from choosing a game they don't want]).

The XBox 360, Microsofts new and improved attempt at stomping on Sony's hopes and dreams. This console appeals to the geek or nerd who is more into either having major customization to their gaming experience or blowing crap up in Halo 3 and any other FPS (First-Person Shooter) that may come out for the game. This console is lower in price than the Playstation 3, about $350 or more (depending on the model chosen). the games for this console aren't cheaper though, still $60 a pop. The XBox does have some slightly better titles that are currently out for it, more action than RPGs. this console also attracts gamers who enjoy games of the sport variety. but do to my preference of RPGs and my anticipation of receiving a Playstation 3, I don't have a whole lot to so say about the console, sure you can buy different face plates for the console and the console menu is quite nice and so is the community through the XBox live connection, but for me (a Final Fantasy fan) none of the games on the XBox could replace the games I want that are to be released exclusively for the Playstation 3, please forgive the bias.

The Wii. A console for either the old person who believes that gaming is for lazy fat people, or a hyper active child. this console doesn't use the traditional control scheme with its controllers. with the system you get what is commonly named a Wiimote and a nunchuck, which are used in a wireless way to where the console detects basic motions of the two controllers. this console is great for those who love to have gaming parties, or even for those who just like to entertain. I own one of these, and it comes with a game named WiiSports, which has 6 sport games built into it, for most people this game alone is all that they'll need for quite some time. I sat this console up during Thanksgiving, and when people weren't eating, it was the focus of everyone's attention old and young. the is the cheapest console out of the current generation of consoles, running at about $250, and about $40/game. for the budget-tight X-Mas, this is the ideal gift (since chances are that all you'll have to pay for the kid to be satisfied with the gift is the console).

The witty T. geeks and nerds alike love to have at least one shirt to show off their geeky and/or nerdy pride, and at jinx.com, you can find an array of geeky and nerdy shirts to fit any geeky or nerdy personality.

World of Warcraft and expansion. A gift for the lifeless, enough said. the number one PC MMORPG (Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game) on the planet. the one you gift this to will not be seen outside of the computer room for at least a week with the exception of the requirement of food and drink (sleep is not required for those who own this game). only downside, $15/month subscription fee. but for those who you want to teach that they need to earn their game time, there are 30-day prepaid cards available.

RockBand, the game for the rock star wanna-be in the family. if you have $170 burning a hole in your pocket and have someone in the family who thinks that they could be a rock star (and this person owns a playstation 2, 3 and/or a XBox 360), here's the chance for them to prove themselves.

More to be added as I find them

College

what is the use of college. the only thing it gets you in the end is a piece of paper, and all that piece of paper will get you is a job where you'll be stuck in the same cycle for the rest of your life with. there a few jobs that can actually be considered careers that absolutely require the knowledge that you get from college and that's stuff like rocket science, but I'm not shooting for a degree in rocket science, I'm going for entrepreneurial studies. which a degree in entrepreneurial studies is kind of contradictory. being an entrepreneur is all about building your own wealth and going after investment opportunities, college doesn't teach you any of that. in fact since I've been going to college I feel that I've been wasting time there. I'm spending all of my time learning things that i won't ever use (granted I'm still stuck in 100 and 200 classes) in what I want to do. for example, when am I ever going to use pre-calculus and calculus in any business that i plan to run and hire people who are smarter than me in the areas that I lack. an 8th grader can do what I want to do. the only reason I'm trying to get a degree in the field is so that people i hire don't look down on me, so that people have more respect towards me. and that reason isn't strong enough for me to devote the study time needed to pass some of my more complicated classes, and it's also not strong enough for me to devote the required time for homework for the easier classes. maybe I'm just frustrated at the system, why would you need a piece of paper with specific words and signatures to say I can do something, why can't there be another way to prove to people that you're capable.

online money

either I read into all of the online ways of getting money way too much, or I'm getting myself way too involved with them or something. every time I turn around I find a new way to make money online that sounds better than the last way. I'm about to pull my hair out, or at least go and take advantage of the price drop on the PS 3. whichever happens, I hope that in the end I end up wealthy, without the help of any inheritance. I want to start to work on becoming a self made person, but whenever I find something that know for a fact will work I either don't have the time or I don't have the money. I badly want to have all of my income be passive, but the only ways that I'm able to get my hands on require my participation. my ideal job would be that of a turn-key business, without the down payment. there are plenty of offers out there for setting up you own chain of vending machines, AT Ms, and food shacks. the problems with these are, I don't have the cash to pay for the vending machines or the AT Ms, and I most definitely don't have the income to pay for the rent of the good locations for such turn-key businesses. and the problem with kiosk based businesses is that if you want to expand, you have to deal with employees. I'm kind of stingy when it comes to money, and I don't want a portion of the money that flows into my business to be given to some teenager that won't spend the money very wisely, not that I did as a teenager, but still. granted that my dream company would require a handful of employees, especially if I found a way to franchise it.that brings up another opportunity that is in abundance these days, franchise owning. I don't think I could follow very closely to someone else's guidelines to run a business. lately I've being doing nothing bus search up entrepreneurial opportunities online, only to find nothing but MLM programs, and others that are MLM related. and the ones that aren't MLM related don't sound like they'll work. I am test driving one of the non MLM ones though, I'm crossing my fingers that it'll work, so that I can get at least a small extra stream of income. for my entrepreneurial studies I'm thinking of studying up on real estate, the only market that will always be around to work on. I'm also thinking of dabbling a bit in the stock market. but before I do any of that I think I'll ask my dad if he'll be my mentor, and if he won't be, I'll ask if he knows someone who is willing to teach my how to build and maintained wealth. who knows what the future holds

and if my chair falls apart on me one more time I'm tossing it and going to Walmart and getting a new one..... Damn it, that's it, either a new chair or a cheap Allen wrench set. two very important screws for the chair have been stripped and popped out of their designated slots, thus completing the support structure of the chair. I've tried many times to hand screw in the screws, but to have the chair give way when I lean back in it.

new job

I recently got a new job working for an old boss. I got a job working for a guy who was the assistant manager at my last job, he left the other job due to an offer to become a general manager. during my time at my last job while he was there me and him became good friends and when he was offered the general manager position he told me that if I ever needed a job to hold me over till I get a career, that he would hire me on the spot, and so I took him up on his opportunity. it works out great. during slow times we can chat like friends, and he'll give me the hours I want (or at least as close to the amount I want as he can). and the job is so much easier than my last job and it's also 15 minutes closer to me than my last job. but the only down part to it is that it's a slight pay cut, but with more hours than what I was working at my last job I should be getting more, or at least breaking even. and that's ok because Laura and I can live perfectly well off of our current wages, especially now that she's getting more hours at the place that she's working at. and if things go the way I plan, our current wages won't matter.we could be working our current jobs for the rest of our lives and we'll still become wealthy. assuming things go the way I hope they'll go. I recently discovered that I love business and investing. due to this discovery I changed my major to bachelor in entrepreneurial studies. the way that I discovered this passion of mine was when I read "the five lessons a millionaire thought me about life and wealth" for a second time. after I read it the second time I went to a web site that is pointed out in the book, I had looked at this site after the first time I read it but not much was there. the web site was www.winninginthemargins.com (enter in nic for the password if you chose to check it out). through this web site I discovered a network marketing company named BookWise. I signed up for BookWise and started to follow all of the steps to gaining an extra income through this company. one of the steps to being considered am associate in this company is to have a qualifying order each month, a qualifying order is one book of your choice from their list of books to buy at retail price, which they will send to you in the hardback version. my first book that I chose was "Nothing Down" by Robert G. Allen, this book was on back order. while I waited for this book to arrive I bought "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert T. Kiyosaki and went on my honeymoon. I was able to finish the book halfway through the trip. I was not satisfied with this one business book, so I found a Barnes and Noble that was in a nearby marketplace in Hawaii and bought "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Clason. both books taught similar lessons to the five lessons, but through different examples and through different wording. when I got back from the honeymoon I got my copy of "Nothing Down," which I attempted to read. to say the least, I couldn't get as excited about this book as I did with the other three books. it was time for me to pick out another qualifying order. this time I chose "The Greatest Salesman in the World" by George Og Mandino. this book intrigued me just as much as the first three I read. after I had read these books I had found myself trying to live my life according to the lessons I had learned from these books, I also found myself preaching the friends, family and my wife about these books (all of which were greatly irritated by my constant preaching, especially Laura). after I had come to the realization of this and caught myself constantly trying to find smart ways to invest my money and ways to make money on that side that would get me a passive income I came to the conclusion that I should become an entrepreneur. I've been searching for cheap online investments since then, trying to find passive income plans that work with minimal effort on my part, seeing how I'm not yet 21 and have a hard time getting myself to get past my shyness to be able to do network marketing. I'm still in BookWise in hope that someday I'll find a way that I can market it without having to worry about my shyness. but at the same time I have this feeling that I'll get wealthy by other means, who knows what the future holds for me. I'm hoping that someday day I'll get the right inspiration to write a book. I've also notice that I'm starting to develop somewhat of a sixth sense for little things here and there that could potentially create a passive income, unfortunately all of these things that I've been noticing have been for people other than me, I might be able to work it out to where I could reap a benefit by pointing them in the right direction. they of course would get the majority of the income that would be made with their unique situation, I would just ask for a small percentage of their revenue, sort of like a manager for an artist of some sort.

video games

many people consider gamers to be lazy and that video games couldn't possibly be good for you in any way shape or form. I beg to differ. if one is to play the right video games they can be very good for you. these days more and more educational video games are being released, role playing games are like interactive books, sports games can mentally train you for the sport itself (if looked at in the right way), shooting gallery games can help your hand-eye coordination (this also applies to beat-games such as DDR), some games if played right can be exercise (look at the hardcore DDR players). growing up, video games were one of my only sources of entertainment. while other kids my age were busy playing sports and other outdoor activities, I enjoyed the mental enjoyment that I was able to get from video games. though now that I look back I wish I had read more books, or you know, read the text in the games that I played. for me, video games can be a way of relieving stress. if I've had a long hard day, I'll go to my computer or video game console, pick the bloodiest and most action oriented game I have (such as devil may cry or quake) and just cut loose. video games also help me cope with life when things aren't going the way I want. in short, video games are my crack, but in my opinion video games are better for you than actually doing any form of drugs. during high school, whenever I got the chance to choose my own topic for an essay, I would always choose the topic of "video games are good for you." if you want a challenging topic to do research on, that would be the one. there are very few articles in this world that will actually support gamming, the longest essay I was able to write on the subject was no longer than 5 pages with 12 point font in times new roman with 1 inch margins. I hope that someday in the future that subject with be easier to research. one of my favorite scenes in a video game was in star ocean: till the end of time, in the scene a gamer that is in the game was being accused that if he were to do nothing but play video games that someday he'll be nothing more than a muscle head (the video games in this game were holographic and fully interactive).

last night (or really early this morning, depending on how you look at it), my wife and I went and saw the new Harry potter movie. we thought that in quality of story is was in the ballpark of the first 2 movies where as in graphics and theatrics it was in the ballpark of the last one, if not better. we would highly recommend seeing the movie.

Honeymoon

Laura and I are now married and are back from our honeymoon. We went to Maui for our honeymoon and when we got back we went to my parent's cabin. While in Hawaii we went sailing, snorkeling, swimming, biking, and shopping. We went on this boat trip that was part sailing and part snorkeling, we were supposed to go to an island name molokini, but the wind was too strong, making the waves within the crater that is the island of molokini, so we went sailing and went to another area to snorkel, though we didn't get to go where we thought we were going to go, it was fun. on our last day there we went to a luau, which went through a brief history of luaus and told of a Hawaiian myth. we went to random shops throughout our trip, we spent two days in a town named Lahaina, which is a tourist town. throughout this town are many fascinating art galleries, shops and restaurants. though we had a lot of fun being there, the travel days had random annoyances. when we were going to Hawaii we showed up at the airport and got to the bag check stand to find out that our flight had been cancelled and that we were moved over to a flight that was 6 hours later. we didn't drive ourselves to the airport, we had my dad drive us. we called my mom and she had my dad turn around and pick us back up and take us to breakfast. we spent about an hour and a half at the restaurant that my dad had taken us to for breakfast till we went back to the airport. my mom had called up the travel agent to make sure that the rest of our day were to go smoother. we got on our flight and arrived in LA and then we waited there for 2 hours till we got on our next flight to Maui. we got to Maui and got our rental car. we drove to the hotel, spending about an hour trying to figure out where the hotel was to figure out that if we were to drive further than the point at where we kept on turning around at that would have found it a lot faster. we got to the hotel and went into the check in desk to find out that on the 14th that a fax had been sent to them saying that our reservation had been cancelled. no comment. after a half an our of waiting for them to reinstate our reservation we parked our car in their parking garage and took our luggage to our room and flopped down on the bed and rested for a while and then we went to dinner before we went back to bed for a good night's sleep. starting that next day we had lots of fun. then on our flight back the flight from Maui to San Francisco went smoothly, but once we got on the flight to get back home they had everyone get off the plain and made us wait another hour because their parking break had broke at some point in time. luckily both Laura and I had books to read. once we got home we waited about a half an hour for our bags at the baggage claim, then my dad picked us up and took us to our house where we dropped all of our stuff off at a random spot and though it was in the middle of the day we went to bad and slept for about 3 hours, we thn went and did random things such as going and eating and going through the stuff that we had bought for other people. we then spent one day home and then went to stay at my parents cabin for 4 days. now we're back and are happy that we're married and wish that we didn't have to go back to working.

Imagination

The imagination is the most powerful thing that the human race possesses, imagination is the key to happiness. with the imagination you can go places that aren't humanly possible, and you can also shape your reality, depending on how you use your imagination. from this point on, this blog will either have a post about things that I'm imagining (which will be put in the present tense), or some philosophical topic that i feel like posting about. the reason for this switch, is because I haven't been able to come up with enough topics to put a topic every day.

my wedding is this Sunday and i can't wait for it to be here, and then i get to go to Maui, it's going to be loads of fun.

misc

i have no idea as to what i could write about today. during today i haven't had any major "ah-hah" moments, nothing to talk about popped into my head, therefore i will talk about nothing. nothing is vast and unknown. in the universe there is a whole lot of nothing. like what is in a black hole, nothing (perhaps there may be a chunk of rock that has been shrunken to a quantum singularity). nothing is everything and everything is nothing. but then where is there something, if there is nothing but nothing around us. what is a shadow made of, why am i still putting random stuff down. why are you still reading this, it's not like i have anything to say today. check back another time when i have an idea as to what to talk about. maybe i'll start watching the discovery channel more, that channel usually gets my mind working right. or maybe next time i'll find a website that has random topics, close my eyes and point, or maybe i'll even grab one of my college books, turn to a random page and point at a word and talk about my thoughts about that word. that could be fun, or maybe some random reader could post a message and give me an idea (and be careful what you say, i might talk about it, no mater how foolish or insulting you may think it is, i don't know, we'll see what will happen. i can't believe you're still reading this. oh yeah, yesterday i joined BookWise, it might be my way to success, maybe, i don't know, i hope, it could be fun, i'm gonna treat it like a home business and see where it goes. who knows it might get as big as any other book selling place on the internet someday, if so i'll be rich, but if not i'll probably end up working all my life like any other person in this world. are you tired of me babbling about random stuff yet, i don't know if i am yet. i could finnnish just randomly, but i don't know, i'm kinda having fun. lets see here, what other random thought could i put dow for thw whole world to see. sonic food is weird, i've worked there for nearly 9 or so months and i'm still not tired of it. for some reason i crave it more than when i wasn't working there, maybe they put something in there food that makes you like it more the more you have it, or maybe it's just me, who know. man i'm bad with punctuation, i have run on after run on after run on. maybe i should have that looked at. oh and to make this post complete, i'm not even going to use spellcheck, you (the reader) get to see how much i suck at writing. i won't even reread through it to make sure it sounds good/right/sane. well adios, sayonara, ciao, asta loego (pr however it is spelled, NO CORRECTING ME i failed spanish in high school, my mind was too set on learning japanese). bye by

Love

The worlds most complicated feeling. Love can make you happier than you've ever been in your whole life, where at the same time it can cause you so much pain that you feel like ripping your heart out just so that you'll stop feeling that pain. some people use the word carelessly and sometimes don't even mean it. it is a word that is so potent and so full of meaning that it should be used with the utmost of care.

love of a family is a feeling that grows gradually over time as you grow up around your family. whether you're raised by someone as cliche' and normal as you birth parents or by a pack of wolves, as you age you grow fond of them and they grow fond of you. this fondness is a form of love. the same thing is applied to siblings. though you do love your brother(s) and/or sister(s), doesn't mean that you like them all of the time, same with your parents. though in extreme cases, this love/fondness can be severed, it is very difficult to fully remove the feeling from your being.

love of a friend is a completely platonic love. this is where you feel that you're so entwined in your friends' life (and visa versa) that you feel that they're apart of your family (thus partially applying some of the ideas of family love to friendly love). these are the friends that you would do anything they asked of you (within reason). you would take a bullet for these people (and they would probably do the same for you). when it comes to friendships that are strong enough to have a love about it, you don't want it to ever end. these are the people that will always be there for you. you can talk to them about your wildest of ideas and the meanest thing they'll do is give you constructive criticism. these people are your best friends, and they'll be with you no matter where you are at in the social ladder.

love of a mate, the greatest love of all time (only rivaled by a mother's love). this is a love that is so strong that you're willing to spend nearly every waking moment with the person (or persons for some people out there, I don't know how you could pull that off though). this love may grow with or without the consent of the other person (which is when stalkers are born). the best version of this love is when it is given back to you, when the person that you have this feeling for feels the same way about you. there's no test that you can do to see whether or not the other person has the same feeling that you do, it's more of a time tested thing, a love that you discover how strong it is through random instances that occur in your relationship with the other person. the difficulty with this feeling is that it can easily be mistaken with lust, which is just a very strong physical attraction. the people that make this mistake (that the feeling is mutual between the two people) sometimes rush into things and get married before they have the chance to give the relationship the test of time. and with those relationships, when the physical runs low, the relationship falls apart. you know that you're in love with someone when cuddling sounds like a better plan than having sex, not all the time, but most of the time (there are physical needs to an individual, usually the male has a greater need/thirst/hunger than the female, but not always). a healthy version of this relationship rarely looks at what they don't have in the relationship and usually looks at the things that they do have. the generality of this feeling knows no gender, which has been known for centuries.

in all of the above, learn to not stress over small things. anyone that you share a mutual love with is always good to keep around / in touch with.

Money

good ol' money. the creation of man that has brought people power. without money, you have no power, with the exception of the power of voice and opinion, the only powers that could go against money. money can make people's wildest of dreams come true, but without someone to share that dream there is no worth to it. you can go on a magnificent trip to Florida, Hawaii, Italy, Greece, etc. without having someone to reminisce those memories with.

money can't buy happiness, but it sure can help.

money has the ability to enslave people. with interest and credit, people can find them self owing so much money that they'll never be able to pay all of it off, and in the end, leave their children and poss ably grand children with that debt to pay instead of a nice inheritance.

it brings order to society, and at the same time it destroys it. money gets in the way of important things, such as medical research and technological advancement. at the same time, if money didn't exist then we wouldn't be the technologically advance civilization that we are today. the reason for this is because money causes a drive in people to succeed, though they may not be entirely aware of it. so if we didn't have money we probably wouldn't have something as simple as a calculator, but since people have the drive to make money which at the same time causes a drive to succeed. there will never be a time where you'll get paid more for the less glorious job. a janitor will never be paid more than an engineer. people who make civilized life possible will never be paid more than someone who tells other what to do all day.

if we were to remove money out of the world today, people would do one or more from a small list of things. either people will see everything as free and start stealing everything that they want, which if there was no money involved in the case of items in retail stores then it wouldn't really be stealing, people way also start of a barter system, or they'll do nothing. the people who were in major debt would rejoice, but the people who are worth millions to billions of dollars wouldn't know what to do.

that or either people would start to persue their life ambisions. without the weight of money people may go out on a lim for those things of wich were previously out of their reach finacially. doctors may find avery merical cure they ever wanted to find, thrill seekers would persue every thill they ever wanted to seek, engineers would experimant with things that that never experimented before because it was a finacial risk.

who knows what would happen if all of a sudden money wasn't an issue. only the greater being of your choise may know. (the topic of god will be discusses in a later post)
